It is no secret that Jeep is planning to bring the Trailhawk variant of the Compass to India. The Compass Trailhawk is already on sale in some RHD markets and is being manufactured in India. It has now been spied inside out, and looks similar to the one on sale overseas.
It is easy to distinguish the Trailhawk variant of the Compass thanks to the black and white bonnet, new alloy wheels design, red tow hooks and raised ground clearance. While all of this might be visible at first glance, the Trailhawk variant also gets revised front and rear bumpers that better the approach and departure angles. On the inside, the Trailhawk variant dons a black interior with red accents.
The Trailhawk variant of the Compass also gets a 4WD system with a low range gearbox and a rock-crawl mode in the terrain select system. However, all these are features that might not appeal to your average buyer when it is launched in India. What the buyers actually have been waiting for is the diesel-automatic combo that has been missing in the India-spec Compass ever since its launch in mid-2017. The Jeep Compass Trailhawk will retain the same 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine that is good for 173PS/350Nm, but will be mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission sourced from ZF. No other variant of the diesel engine-powered Compass comes with the option of the automatic transmission right now.
The Trailhawk variant is expected to be offered only with the diesel engine in the Compass. It could command a premium of around Rs 2 lakh over the top-spec Limited Plus 4X4 variant of the Compass, which retails for. Rs 22.90 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi).
