There are unconfirmed reports that the British automotive company Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), which is now owned by Tata Motors, will start its operation at its Pune facility later this month, said sources. At this plant Tata Motors will be assembling around 2,000 Land Rovers annually. Initially, the Land Rover Freelander 2 4x4 will be rolled out of the plant and it is expected that other Land Rover cars and Jaguar models would soon follow. Similarly, unconfirmed reports have also come in that the JLR Pune assembly plant would be on May 27.

According to related reports, the company is currently producing its components at JLR's Merseyside factory in England. With the Pune facility in operation the components produced will be shipped in a 'knocked down' state and then assembled at this unit. However, when Tata Motors decided to set up an assembling unit in India for the Land Rover fleet, it was criticized on the ground that Tata intended to get advantage of cheap labor available in India. Later, the company is said to have clarified that the Pune unit is for expansion and not otherwise.
