Just two days before the official launch, Mahindra KUV100 has been spied (again) in a stock yard. This time, there has been a video, showcasing details of one of the higher variants, as this car is equipped with alloys. KUV100 will come with an optional 6 seater variant which will have a lap belt for the front centre passenger. Although all angles of the car have been seen in some or the other spy images, this time there is a complete walkaround of the car.
Inside, KUV100 is all new with the dashboard accommodating the usual knobs and making way for the gear lever as well. This transfer has been made in order to seat the optional third front passenger. Knobs have also been aligned in a vertical orientation to make way for the gear knob. Steering wheel is a three-spoke unit with mounted controls, at least in the spied variant. Just so you forget what car you are driving, there is a KUV100 badge just above the gear shifter to remind you.
Engines, as introduced in the official KUV100 reveal, are part of an all new mFALCON family. Petrol unit is a 1.2-litre mFalcon G80 capable of producing 81bhp of power. Diesel is a mFalcon D75 - 1.2-liter 3-cylinder turbo diesel which generates 77bhp at 3,750rpm and 190Nm of max torque in between 1,750-2,250rpm. Gearbox, at the time of launch, will only be a 5-speed manual, but Mahindra might soon launch an automatic option in the future.
Looks of the car are a little unconventional, it takes on the SUV stance and styling in a slightly bigger avatar than Kwid. That is what will make or break this compact hatchback as you will either fall in love or just despise its appearance. The front profile is dominated by the headlamp clusters and bold foglamps outlined in chrome. The grille compared to this looks slim which gives it a unique character. Moving to the side, the tall design has been complemented with a curving body line towards the end. The rear door handle has also been placed near the C-pillar to add some more character. But what grabs immediate attention is the long follow through from the headlamp cluster holding the mFalcon badge. Alloys are also given an edgy design to appeal to the customers who are looking for something sporty. Rear, very much like the Kwid is left oblique. On the boot gate is a Mahindra logo accompanied by the name of the car.
The launch will take place on January 15, 2016 and we expect the price to fall within the Rs. 4-7 lac bracket. The car will go head on with the Swift, Grand i10, Figo and Bolt.
