After launching the Verito facelift version in India, Mahindra & Mahindra has now hinted that they might bring in a compact car as well using the similar platform. Speaking to TOI, Mahindra & Mahindra has shared their plans of developing a small car using the 'Logan Platform' that they took from Renault while they were in a JV. The company further said that there are a number possibilities of deriving a compact car from the current Logan/Verito platform.
Speaking about the same, Pravin Shah, CEO- Utility vehicle said "If we feel that post this and the next product (sub four-meter Verito), customers want another product, we will go for it. M&M has the capability and competencies to develop the product."
This will certainly be a new thing for M&M but not for the Indian market, there are a number of sibling available in India which share the similar platform like Maruti Suzuki Swift-Dzire, Toyota Etios Liva- Etios Liva hatchback, Volkswagen Polo- Vento and various others. And if it happens, this will open the ways for M&M in hatchback segment, which is growing at a great pace.
Using common platforms and developing compact cars have always been a win-win thing for the car makers, as it reduces all their efforts that are put to develop and test an all new platform, thus reduces the overall cost. And if the company's objective is to make a compact car, which is lesser in price and has a great power, so what can be better than developing a car using one of their successful vehicles.
As we have reported this earlier as well, that Mahindra is working on to develop a sub four-meter Verito sedan as well which will be positioned against segment toppers like Maruti Swift Dzire and Toyota Etios.
Check out this space for more updates on the same. Cheers!!
