Mahindra Plans for Two Small Cars

After the grand success of their XUV500, the new Verito and the all new Quanto, Mahindra & Mahindra are now planning on getting in some new small cars in the lucrative small car market of India. As of now the speculations are that they are developing two small cars which will stand against Maruti Suzuki, the number1 company in the passenger car segment and Hyundai India, which follows Maruti close behind. The Mahindra vehicles are codenamed C-101 and S-101 and are expected to launch within next 2 years.
The C-101 and S-101 will be based on the monocoque FWD platform. Mahindra & Mahindra also is developing smaller engines in both petrol and diesel options. The probable Petrol engine, 1litre – 1.2litre, is being engineered with Ssangyong and the diesel engine is expected to be developed from the mHawk engine.
It is being said that Mahindra small cars will start the manufacturing in a new plant for which they are planning to $1 billion. There are also speculations that the new variants for the Mahindra Quanto with semi-automatic and a 4-Wheel drive variant.
