Mahindra & Mahindra has finally rolled out the Quanto Compact SUV today in Mumbai at an exciting price bracket of Rs 5.8 lakh-7.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Thane). The vehicle is the first sub-4 meter SUV in India yet accommodates seven people (5 Adults +2 Jumper seats), however Premier Rio came before it, but that's a five-seater one. Made on the ingenio platform, it has come out in four different variants; C2, C4, C6 and C8.
Deriving its power from 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, twin turbocharged CRDi diesel engine that they called mCR100 mated to a five-speed manual transmission gearbox, churns out the maximum of 100bhp and 240Nm of torque and returns an impressive mileage of 17.21kmpl. The all new Quanto has been offered with a twin scroll turbo, which is the smallest twin-turbo diesel in the world helping the compact SUV do good in terms of overall performance. And having owned an array of features like ABS, 2 Airbags, reverse park assist, micro-hybrid start-stop technology and various other advanced ones, the Quanto is certainly a worth buy. The top end variants Quanto C6 and C8 gets the features like Drive seat height adjust and integrated audio system in addition.
Now when the vehicle has been priced quite aggressively and have got some genuinely good features to lure buyers, we are sure will compete so closely with Renault Duster, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and all new Premier Rio. So, we bring to you a short comparison of the all new Quanto with all its rivals on the basis of four most important factors, Pricing, looks, drivability and mileage that decide the destiny of any car in India.
Mahindra Quanto Vs Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga certainly is the closest competitor of the all new Quanto, and why not, it has all what it takes to be a complete car and that has been the reason why it has come out as a new segment topper of the MUV segment. When it comes to the pricing, the diesel variants of the Ertiga are priced higher than that of the Quanto, where Ertiga LDI starts at Rs 7.30 lakh, the Quanto C2 costs Rs 5.82 lakh, so that's a huge difference. When it comes to the appearance and looks, the Quanto is certainly a head-turner, however both hails from different segments. Since the drivability depends mainly on the engine, there again the Quanto is more powerful vehicle producing the power output of 100bhp and 240Nm of torque as compared to the Ertiga's 88.7bhp and torque of 200Nm. Yes, in fuel economy, the Ertiga scores more by offering 20.77kmpl, but the Quanto too is impressive enough with claimed mileage of 17.21kmpl. So we would suggest you Mahindra Quanto over the Ertiga.
Mahindra Quanto VS Renault Duster
The newly launched compact SUV, Renault Duster is the other very close competitor of the Quanto, which is undoubtedly a better looking car than the Quanto, and the mileage figures too are at the same level. In fact 110PS version of the Duster is more powerful engine than the Quanto, however the later also produces an impressive 100bhp, so the difference is not very huge. But the difference between the prices of entry level variants of both the vehicles is very huge, the Quanto is cheaper by approximately Rs 3 lakh. So here again Quanto makes a better deal.
Mahindra Quanto Vs Premier Rio
Although known to less, but Premier Rio as well is a sub-4 meter compact SUV and has been amongst one of the cheapest SUVs today available in India. It has recently got its BSIV complaint version to target the urban buyers, and if the marketing strategies and dealership expansion work well for the company, this too can come out as serious threat to many of its competitors. But we will compare both the Premier Rio and Quanto on the basis of what they are as vehicles on ground rather than the competency of their makers to sell them.
Having a 1.3-litre multijet diesel engine, the all new Rio produces the maximum of 72bhp and 183Nm of torque, and renders an impressive fuel economy of 19kmpl. On the other hand, Mahindra Quanto churns out the power output of 100bhp and 240Nm of torque, thus possesses a more powerful mechanism. The claimed mileage figures too are good, and having a lesser price tag than the Rio, the Quanto beats Premier Rio in most departments.
