Maruti India raises diesel car prices

The high inflation in the country has begun affecting the car industry as well. In tandem with the surging input costs, India’s leading car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India is reported to enforce a price hike in the diesel cars by Rs 10,000 effective yesterday. The company has hiked price of diesel variants of Maruti SX4, Maruti Swift and Maruti Swift Dzire, while Maruti Ritz price has gone up by Rs 2000.

The economic slowdown and the recurring petrol price revisions are forcing the car manufacturers to undergo a harrowing experience. Despite the grim situations, the car manufacturers are fearing to take a step towards inflating their car models price. But, the materials like steel and rubber prices are getting beyond reach increasing the production costs drastically. Moreover, the depreciation of rupee against the Yen is further pushing the import costs for Maruti Suzuki India.

To overcome the price battle prevalent in the car industry, Maruti India has decided to go ahead to shoot up the diesel car prices. Maruti India has been the target of series of labour strikes at their manufacturing plants leading to a massive production loss. Furthermore, the auto major has witnessed a rock bottom sales in the month of October registering 55% negative growth at 50,478 units. The faithful customers of Maruti India are showing signs to stray to other models due to the prolonged waiting period stretching to 9 months in case of the popular Swift hatchback and Swift Dzire models.
