Maruti to resume SX4, A-Star production, stand-off continues

Maruti Suzuki India exceeded the normal production levels for the Maruti Swift model on Wednesday and produced a total of 625 units of Marui Swift cars from Gurgaon and Manesar plant. Maruti India also said that it will look at beginning the production of hatchback Maruti A-Star and premium sedan Maruti SX4 from next week. But the stand-off still continues between the management and workers. It seems Haryana government is loosing a lot of its revenue due to the ongoing impasse between the management and workers at Maruti Manesar plant. That is why the much concerned government has intervened again into the matter in order to break the ice.

Two days before also Haryana government held talks with the management and workers of Maruti India but nothing yielded out of it. So, on Wednesday the government is again trying its hand so that a ceasefire becomes possible. Labour Minister Shiv Charan Lal Sharma visited Gurgaon on Wednesday and met senior department officials at Maruti India to decide on the further actions for negotiations. Sharma said if a solution did not come out in the next few days, the government would transfer the matter to the labour court. Even Satwanti Ahlawat, Haryana Labour Commissioner had said earlier that the matter should be referred to the labour court to find a solution. P C Meena, the Deputy Commissioner of Gurgaon, confirmed that the government was holding talks separately between Maruti India and the protesting workers. He said the formal talks would also begin in the next few days. He added that he himself will hold talks between the two sides in another two days to find a solution.

However, Maruti India spokesperson confirmed that informal talks were on between the management and labour department officials to resolve the heat. The production of both Maruti A-Star and Maruti SX4 cars will resume at Manesar plant. In a statement Maruti India confirmed that it will take probable a week to start the production of Maruti A-Star and Maruti SX4. On the other hand, D L Sachdeva, general secretary of the All India Trade Union Congress, clarified that Haryana government had so far not initiated any talks with the unions.
