The production at the Maruti India’s Manesar plant had come to a stand still on August 29th, after sacking 21 workers from the factory, who had been allegedly responsible for hampering the production and creating quality issues at the factory intentionally. After this incident the company had asked the workers to sign a good conduct bond before entering the premises in order to maintain discipline in the factory.

Following the employee unrest, the factory operations have partially resumed to produce only 200 cars per day against its full capacity of 900 units production. The sales of the Maruti cars have been severely hit including the best-selling model Maruti Swift. With the labor unrest on one hand, Maruti India will take its decision on the proposed plant in Gujarat by this October. Apparently, Osamu Suzuki, the chairman of Suzuki Motors and Gujarat’s chief Minister, Narendra Modi had discussed about the site under consideration for the proposed plant on Thursday. Commenting on the meeting between the both, R.C. Bhargava, Chairman of MSI had said that the meeting had ended on a positive note and with the assurance from the Gujarat Chief Minister. The company hopes the production capacity of the new plant to be two million units by 2015.
