Maruti Suzuki has started testing its upcoming hatchback codenamed YRA on Indian roads. When launched, the hatch will be placed above the Swift to compete with segment leader Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo, upcoming Honda Jazz and Fiat Punto Evo. The Japanese automaker first showcased the concept version -iK2 of Maruti Suzuki’s YRA at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and seeing the anticipation from the company, the automaker might launch this premium hatch in a month or two.
With spy shots, it's clear that the hatch gets LED daytime running lights and elegant chrome grille. Speaking of the interiors, it will be a brand new one with similar Suzuki bits and pieces. We expect Suzuki’s SmartPlay 7-inch touchscreen infotainment just like the Ciaz, featuring sat-navigation in the upcoming model. In the safety and component feature list, since the car is placed in the premium B segment, it is expected that the hatch will get dual airbags, ABS, EBD, BA, ESP along with automatic climate control
The hatch is based on Maruti’s new platform and if reports are to be believed, YRA might also be launched with Suzuki’s new 1.0-litre turbocharged Boosterjet petrol engine with segment best fuel economy. While the diesel model will get Fiat sourced MultiJet engine which also does duty in Maruti Suzuki Swift, Ritz and Swift DZire.
The iK2 concept on which YRA is build has a ‘Liquid Flow’ design theme and is inspired from three keywords - “harmony,” “elegance,” and “energy wave”; featuring a low stance and wide silhouette.
