The next in pipeline in Maruti’s AGS clan (Auto-Gear-Shift aka AMT - Automated Manual Transmission) is the AMT version of the popular tall boy - Wagon R. Maruti is gradually increasing its AMT range, the technology which does not cost hefty compared to conventional automatic and even offers similar mileage like its manual counterpart. Maruti is reportedly offering AMT in the premium version of Wagon R - Stingray. Like always, the AMT equipped hatch will be slightly costlier than its manual counterpart.
AMT supplier of MSI - Magneti Marelli recently said that currently they are importing all the AMT units as CBU and seeing the rising demand, the Fiat’s subsidiary component manufacturer is setting up new manufacturing facility to cater the growing demand. Moreover, speaking of the Stingray AMT launch, expect it to launch early next year.
Mechanically, Wagon R will be powered by the same all-aluminium 3-cylinder K10B motor. The engine chucks out 67.1bhp of max power @ 6200 rpm and peak torque of 90 Nm @ 3500 rpm. Currently, it is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission while 5-speed AMT (Automated-Manual-Transmission) will be similar to that of Celerio and the recently launched Alto K10, borrowed from Magneti Marelli. Maruti Wagon R Stingray with 5-speed manual transmission comes with a certified fuel efficiency of 20.51 km/l. Like the Celerio and Alto K10, expect the same economy figures for the Stingray AMT.
