The latest reports mention that the Maruti workers have finally relented to vacate the factory premises after the High Court had issued an order to stay away from the factory premises. Agitating workers at Maruti Suzuki Manesar plant who were on a sit-in dharna for eight days gave up the premises late on Friday complying with the Punjab and Haryana High Court directive.

DL Sachadeva of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) had said that they will continue to protest against the MSI management, however, they do not intend to go against the High Court orders. They will carry on their strike, but away from the factory. The workers union has decided on vacating the company premises after the Gurgaon district administration has assured them of finding an amicable solution for both the parties. The Haryana Labour department has apparently called the ongoing worker agitation as illegal on October 12th and yesterday, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered the workers to stay away from the manufacturing plant and not to carry any sit-in demonstration of the strike within the 100 m vicinity. Meanwhile, a Maruti Suzuki spokesman said the company sacked 25 more employees on Friday, including three trainee workers. “The workers have been sacked for indiscipline,” the spokesman said.

The other developments at the plants involve many law suits being filed against each other. While the Haryana labour department has filed a civil suit against the SuzukiPowertrain India Ltd employee union, Suzuki Motorcycle Pvt Ltd union and the representatives on the MSIL plant for violating the terms in the ‘good conduct bond’, the workers unions have challenged to approach the Supreme court to counter the High Court decision. On the other hand, the Haryana Government has referred the Maruti strike to the labour court in response to the plea from the Maruti India management for the losses incurred by the company due to the continuous labour strikes at the plant.
