With an expected launch of this festive season, Maruti has put its YRA aka Maruti Suzuki Baleno into production in India at their Manesar facility. The manufacturer will be showcasing the hatchback in the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. Although, reports say that the initial production is being done for the European market, Maruti will most likely be starting the production for India soon. Also, Baleno price is expected to be at par with the Elite i20.
The car is expected to house a new 1-litre Booster Jet (turbo-petrol) or the 1.2 K-Series engine in the petrol variants and a new 1.5-litre diesel or the 1.3-litre DDiS engine which produces 90bhp and 200Nm torque with SHVS which is currently powering the Ciaz in the diesel variants. The international version of the car is over 4 meter long, but the automaker is expected to make tweaks in the car’s bumpers to make it a sub-4 meter hatchback. YRA might be sold out of Maruti’s premium line of NEXA showrooms which currently sell the S Cross. The premium hatchback will rival the Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo and Honda Jazz in India.
The images showcase production line workers celebrating the first unit of the hatchback. The board say ‘YRA 1st Veh’ which means the the car is still being called the YRA in India, which seems to make sense as the Baleno name does not have a good reputation with Indian customers.
