2012 Mercedes Benz M Class launched the latest generation ML 350 CDI with a price of Rs. 56.9 lakh which can be bought in a CKD unit in comparison to the previous model, which was 15 % higher in cost and was an outgoing entirely as an imported model. Since the CKD operation could not start for some time and to avoid delays, the company launched the limited edition as an CBU ML 350 with only 100 units having an AMG body-kit pricing at Rs. 66 lakh per car.
The car added with AMG body kit and alloy wheels were out of stock within a week of its launch and are now unavailable as all the 100 units which had been sent to India have been sold out. Indian potential buyers of SUV don’t prefer Mercedes Benz in this segment of cars. Car brands like Audi and BMW have a very strong hold in the SUV segment of India but looking at the response of the latest ML 350, Mercedes Benz can take a sigh of relief in the luxury SUV car segment.
Peter T Honegg, managing director and chief executive of Mercedes Benz India reported at the time of launch of the ML 350, the importance of the car for the company in India and the plan to sell around 500 units of the car in India itself in the current financial year in spite of the shortage in the supply of the car globally.
