Mini brand to build an exclusive dealer network in the country

BMW India had officially announced in the past about its intentions to bring the Mini brand range of cars in India. While there were many speculations regarding the Mini brand sharing BMW’s dealerships in the country, the latest information confirms that Mini will have its exclusive sales and service outlets. Mini envisages starting with 2-3 sales outlets in India to extend to 25 dealerships in all by 2015. The company will have its first set of outlets in Delhi and Mumbai regions. Andreas Schaaf had mentioned the probability of bringing the entire Mini models line-up in India, nevertheless, the BMW Mini will be offered in India at a starting price of Rs 25 lakhs.

The cars will be imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) in India. BMW, apparently has plans to set up the assembly plants for the Mini brand in India, however a major cut down in the price is not likely. BMW foresees to build a brand image with the introduction of Mini brand in India. It hopes to carve a niche for itself rather than being a sale volume driver in India. The BMW Mini will compete against relatively small premiere hatchback segment comprising of mere two potential competitors including Fiat 500 and Volkswagen Beetle. Another addition to the BMW family comes in the form of BMW 330d, a 3-series convertible, which is expected to be launched in India by 2012. The coupe was showcased at the BMW Xperience event held by BMW India recently, where the BMW fans could experience the pleasure of driving on the recently launched BMW X3 apart from the X6 and X7 models.
