New Range Rover to loose 1 tonne weight, launch expected in 2012

The Land Rover’s 2013 version of Range Rover is spotted during testing. The fifth generation Range Rover is a major deviation from the outgoing model; lighter by 990 pounds attributing to its new pressed aluminium monocoque used in manufacturing the car. The SUV is said to be wider and 25 mm longer than the Range Rover MK3 providing 125 mm more leg space due to its redesigned architecture. This is the first time in the past 11 years, the Range Rover has decided to bring a major upgrade to the SUV. The new generation Range Rover is expected to be launched towards the end of 2012 at a price of round £ 100,000.

The exteriors of the new SUV are designed to feature trimmer headlamps and the rear lamp cluster. The roofline closing down on the windscreen brings about a substantial change in the appearance of the SUV in the likes of Range Rover Evoque. The changes with respect to the interiors are thought to bring about the perfection to match with the level of Bentley cars. The chopped off weight is expected to boost the fuel efficiency of the car with better performance. The engines are supposed to be offered in petrol and diesel with hybrid system. The engine options on the SUV will be the same V6 and V8 diesel engines with V8 and supercharged V8 petrol motors. A hybrid version is also on the cards with a plug-in customisation enabled with a 69 KW motor running on a 14 kWh battery providing 20 miles mileage on a single charge. A standard 8-speed automatic gearbox is incorporated to aid the engines.
