Nissan to launch 9 new cars in India

Automaker Nissan Motor India Pvt Limited (NMIPL) has revealed its plan of launching a total of nine new cars in India by 2012, said a top official of the company. Kiminobu Tokuyama, Managing Director and CEO, said that company’s product launch plan in India is aggressive, as it has planned to line-up nine models by 2012, of which five new Nissan cars will be produced in India and four models will be the imports from Japan. He also added that their first major milestone was to achieve sales of 1 lakh units a year by 2013 with over 100 dealerships in place. Tokuyama also informed that the company is planning to launch the diesel version of the Micra, which it was hoping to introduce in the domestic markets by the end of the present year.

Tokuyama also said that Nissan was getting ready for the start of exports after  the successful launch of company’s first product Micra in India. He further added that a formal announcement in this regard will be made in the near future. He also stated that they have plans to export the new cars from India to over 100 countries including Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Tokuyama pointed out that 2010 has been an action-packed year for Nissan India. He said that after inaugurating the First Alliance Global Plant-Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Limited in March this year, they started the production of four first made in India, global compact car, the Nissan Micra.

This year on July 15, the Nissan Micra was launched in the Indian market. The model got a good response as the company successfully sold  2110 units of Micra in only 45 days. Tokuyama also commented that their order book has been progressively increasing and till now they have received 4000 bookings, exceeding the company's expectations. At present, Nissan has 20 dealers in operation in the country but soon the company is planning to make it to 100 dealers by 2013. Abhijeet Pandit, Vice President, Sales, Marketing and After Sales, Hovar Automotive India, said that they have been aggressively ramping up their dealership network across the country and going forward.
