Renault India: Will not challenge Nissan on price front

Renault India is pretty happy and delighted to launch its first ever hatchback, Renault Pulse on the same platform that Nissan Micra uses. Besides the platform, the companies also share the manufacturing facility located in Chennai. However, Renault India is in no plans to battle it out with Nissan in the price segment. According to the managing director of Renault India, Mr. Marc Nassif the firm is sharing the manufacturing unit in Chennai with Nissan to get the savings of the scale effect.

Launching Renault Pulse on Nissan Micra’s platform is just a positive way to enter the hatchback section of the Indian car market. Furthermore, Mr. Nassif mentioned that the firm has no intention to battle it out with Nissan on the price segment, when enquired whether Renault India is prepared to make its debut into the sub-Rs. 4 lakh division of the Indian auto industry. Nassif gave a positive reply by saying that Renault has already marked its presence in Rs. 4 lakh and above segment and is very much interested in making its debut into the sub-Rs. 4 lakh category.

Renault Pulse is the third launch by Renault India after the successful Renault Fluence sedan and Renault Koleos. Nassif also mentioned that the company is working hard and is planning to launch about 5 brand new products by the end of this year. This time around, Renault India is aiming to touch the 1 lakh sales mark by the year 2013. Furthermore, he also said that the petrol version of Renault Pulse in on cards now and will be launched in near future.
