Skoda may ship Rapid to neighbouring countries

The Czech auto major Skoda Motors is going to launch its new sedan, Skoda Rapid in India on November 16th. Skoda India’s marketing head, Tarun Jha had informed that the company is contemplating to export the sedan to neighbouring countries, though no concrete plans have been formed as yet. He had elaborated that Skoda Rapid sedan has been manufactured specifically for the Indian car market to cater to the needs of Indian consumers. Apparently, they are quite hopeful that Skoda Rapid will exceed their expectations by far and prove to be the flagship model in near future.

The Skoda Rapid will be introduced in both diesel and the petrol variants to primarily target the Honda City petrol variant and Hyundai Verna Fluidic for its diesel variant. As we all know Skoda Rapid sedan is based on one of the best-selling models of Volkswagen, VW Vento, the new car is expected to surpass Fabia's sales in the country. Skoda Fabia hatchback has a proven track record to mark the highest sales for the Czech manufacturer with 1,200-1,500 units a month in India. The new car is currently being manufactured at the Volkswagen’s Chakan plant near Pune along with Volkswagen Vento sedan, Skoda Fabia and Volkswagen Polo hatchbacks.

Moreover, Skoda India which is not quite popular for its after sales service is reported to be aggressively looking at the dealership expansion in India. The sales outlets, which currently stand at 82 in India is expected to reach 100 by the year end, garnering 20 more by next year. Skoda Rapid is developed sharing the resemblance of Volkswagen Vento and some part of Skoda Fabia especially in terms of fascia of the sedan. Furthermore, the Skoda Rapid sedan is expected to have the same 1.6 L diesel and petrol engine as affixed in Vento. However, the Czech auto major is supposed to place Skoda Rapid price under Volkswagen Vento, which might pose to be a threat to the later for potential cannibalisation.
