There is no doubt that the future belongs to compact cars, and the credit for the same should be given to Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, which actually brought the culture of compact sedans (sub 4-metre) in India, however Tata Indigo CS was the first compact sedan in India. Now when Honda is coming up with Amaze compact sedan, Mahindra with Verito CS, Volkswagen reveals about launching a sub-4 metre Vento to compete against all the aforementioned cars, reports Autocar India.
Confirming the same, Ulrich Hackenberg, R&D chief at Volkswagen says, “This is one possibility we are looking at,” and Volkswagen is expecting that the new compact Vento will help the company boost its sales in the market. Volkswagen Vento which is priced at Rs 7.30 lakh at the moment, which is certainly higher than several competitors, so a sub 4-metre Vento makes a sense here. Being a sub-4 metre car, it will get the excise benefit which will come to 12 per cent from 24 per cent imposed on above 4-metre cars, so we can expect it to be priced around Rs. 6 lakh.
However the company hasn't shared anything about the launch timing of the car, we can expect the vehicle to come by 2014, as the company will try to use the PQ25 platform (Polo/Vento) as much as it can. The company has also been working on a compact SUV and an MPV based on the similar platform. Stay tuned to CarDekho for all the latest updates on the same, Cheers!
