Tata Motors Developing Mini Sumo , Expected Price Rs. 5 Lakh

Some days back we reported that the Indian auto giant Tata Motors is developing the compact version of its flaghship crossover, the Aria. Now the Overdrive guys have reported that Tata Motors is also developing a sub-four metre Sumo Gold, which will as well make its debut next year with an estimated price tag of Rs 5 lakh. Ever since Maruti Suzuki India brought the Ertiga, which is in fact India's first most successful mass segment compact utility vehicle.
The success of the Ertiga showed the potential of mass segment compact vehicles in India, and fascinated other automakers to try their luck. Some months back, we saw Renault Duster, another compact vehicle, however an SUV, which brought the much needed break for the French giant in India. Mahindra as well brought Mahindra Quanto recently, which bagged over 5,000 bookings within three weeks of its launch, proving the competency of the compact vehicles in India once again.
So the initial success of most compact vehicle must have certainly inspired Tata Motors as well to come up with its compact car line-up. OD further reports that the exterior design of the Mini Sumo is ready, which means the engine to be used in the vehicle is still under discussion. The design of all new Mini Sumo has been jointly designed by Tata Motors European Technical Centre in Warwick and Indian design team. To be positioned against Mahindra Quanto, Renault Duster and upcoming Ford EcoSport and likes, the Mini Sumo will be a seven-seater using two jumper seats in the back.
