Tata Motors Partners with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers

Tata Motors has partenered with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers to develop the professional registration of engineers in India, through structured training and development. This association will also provide opportunities for engineers, based in India, to achieve an internationally recognised standard of excellence. According to Dr. Tim Leverton, Head - Advanced and Product Engineering, Tata Motors, “We are delighted that the professional development of Tata Motors Engineers can now be formally accredited under the worldwide recognised framework, offered by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Tata Motors and the Institution will also work together to build networks in industry and academia that can contribute to raising the standard of engineering across the subcontinent. According to Mr. Stephen Tetlow, Chief Executive, The Institution of Mechanical Engineers, “India has become a global leader in manufacturing and an international engineering powerhouse. We are delighted to partner with Tata Motors, one of India’s biggest success stories, and we are looking forward to working together to provide their engineers with an internationally recognised accreditation of training, education and standards, as well as opportunities to develop their knowledge.”

Tata Motors and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers will encourage the professional registration of engineers, in accordance with Engineering Council requirements. The Institution will help to train and support Tata Motors’ engineers, while Tata Motors will encourage its engineers to undertake programmes of Continuous Professional Development (CPD). The Institution will conduct regular workshops and sessions for Tata Motors’ engineers on Professional Registration, Academic Assessment, Assessment of Competence and Initial Professional Development (IPD) and Professional Review. The Institution will also support the Company to ensure compliance with UK-SPEC for engineers working towards chartered, incorporated or technician status.
