At the launch of all new Tata Safari Storme, Tata Motors expressed that they are eyeing no. 2 position in the Indian passenger vehicle market. And to make it possible, the company is working on so many products; there will be 6 new products in India over the next one year. Currently Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra are battling for the no. 3 sport, while the no.1 and 2 positions are occupied by Maruti Suzuki India and Hyundai Motor.

After launching the much awaited, New Tata Safari Storme at an introductory price of Rs 9.95 lakh, the company said that its focus will be on the volumes segment, and it will also keep introducing new products in the growing SUV market. Speaking about the same, Karly Slym, Managing Director- Tata Motors said: "In the next one year there will be six new offerings from us. It will be a mix of brand new models and refreshes," he further says, "We need to go to the market where the customers are. We do have good products such as the Nano, Manza and Aria. But those are not selling well as much as we would like to because we are not there where the customers are."

Talking about the company's future plans and their aim to attain the no. 2 position, he further adds, "We see ourselves as a strong number two player and that is where my vision is for the short to medium term, and eventually become the number one in the long term."

When reporters asked him about the company's portfolio strategy to challenge the top post, Slym replied, "We need to have more presence in the volume segment, where 70 per cent of sales are from small cars. Not only that we also need to be present in the SUV segment, where we have just introduced the Safari Storme to add to the existing Safari.

On the company's plan of making Nano a global product, he said that the next generation Nano will be launched in the markets of US and Europe in three years and the company is likely to consider exporting either completely built units (CBU) or assembly of completely knocked down units (CKD).
