Tata Safari Storme is in the headlines ever since it was showcased at the Indian auto Expo 2012 held in Delhi this year. Amidst all the speculations about its launch, Tata Motors dealers have started taking the pre-orders for the all new Safari, which gives us an idea that the launch might happen any time soon now, most possibly in the first half of October when the Navratras would start.
Tata Safari Storme might not replace the existing Safari, it would be positioned above the current line-up. Based on the X2 platform on which the Aria is built, the Storme is likely to be priced between Rs 9 and 12 lakh and will be closely competing with the likes of Renault Duster, Mahindra Scorpio and others. However it doesn't fall in the competition with Mahindra XUV500, but it will surely affect the sales number.
The all new Strome derives its power from a 2.2-litre 16-valve common rail engine (DiCor) along with a variable geometry turbo mated to a five-speed manual transmission that churns out the maximum of 138bhp and 320Nm of torque, proving it to be one of the most powerful machines of its segment. The all new Safari will have rear wheel drive as standard but will also offer 4WD as an option and having the electronic Shift-on-the-fly (ESOF) feature, it will help the vehicle shift from 2WD to 4WD on the move.
Moreover it will have 200mm ground clearance, electrically operated ORVms and a reverse parking system, proving it to be best-in-class vehicle. When it comes to the appearance , Tata Safari Strome gets more matured inside and out with the all new Front fascia, revamped rear and better quality fitments inside the cabin. The rear spare wheel which has always been there with the Safari since its introduction, has been housed under the body this time.
