The India-spec Model 3 could be available in two variants: Standard Range Plus and Long Range
For the first time in India, the Tesla Model 3 has been spied testing draped in full camouflage. The electric car manufacturer announced earlier this year that it would begin its India operations in 2021.
The spied Model 3 seems to be undergoing on-road testing for its expected launch in 2022. The alloy wheels, headlamps, and tail lamps are the same as the model sold internationally.
Initially, the electric sedan will be offered as a CBU unit. Should it get a decent response, Tesla will consider local manufacturing. The Model 3 is currently the most affordable and bestselling Tesla worldwide.
It comes in three variants: Standard Range Plus, Long Range, and Performance. However, only the first two are likely to make it to India. The Standard variant gets a single electric motor with rear-wheel drive and a range of up to 423 kilometres. In contrast, the Long Range variant gets dual motors with an all-wheel drive and a driving range of up to 569 kilometres.
Features in the Model 3 include a large 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system (that shows and controls everything about your car), OTA updates, 12-way adjustable and heated front and rear seats, tinted glass roof with UV protection, and Autopilot (the carmaker’s fully autonomous driving technology). The last one offers blind spot monitoring, navigation on autopilot, park assist, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, and lane changing assist. However, the India-bound electric sedan is unlikely to get Autopilot.
In India, expect the Model 3 to retail at around Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom). Tesla might also consider bringing some of its other models to the country.
