Volkswagen Polo GTI Launched! Yours For ‘Just’ Rs 26 Lakh

Ladies and gentlemen, it's here! Volkswagen has launched the hottest hatchback of the country – the Polo GTI. After the showcase at the 2016 Auto Expo, the hatchback has officially made its way into the country with a price tag of Rs 25.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Polo GTI comes as a three-door hatchback which accelerates to 100kmph from a standstill in just 7.2 seconds and goes all the way up to a staggering 233kmph. There are only 99 units of the Polo GTI on sale and bookings are already open. So it's time to show some mad driving skills and rush to one of these VW dealerships now!

What makes the GTI a true 'hot hatch' is the 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol motor which breathes fire underneath the bonnet. This engine lashes out 192PS of raw power and 250Nm of torque. The motor is further mated to a lightning-fast seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. In terms of safety, the hatchback comes with six airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Hill-hold and Electronic Stability Program (ESP).

Not only does the Polo GTI drive differently (from the standard Polo), it looks distinctive too. It comes in a three-door avatar with some GTI highlights, like the front bumper with signature honeycomb grille, 16-inch 'Salvador' alloy wheels, full LED headlamps with DRL that have red inserts, front and rear disc brakes with red callipers, and dual exhaust tips with chrome surrounds. The red inserts continue to feature in the insides as well, with contrast stitching and sporty fabric upholstery.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr Michael Mayer, director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, said, “The GTI is one of its kind in the performance hatch segment and is designed for the petrol heads who are well versed with the GTI philosophy. It seamlessly blends power with comfort that guarantees performance and an adrenaline packed driving experience. The one who drives a GTI need not explain anything. He simply drives a statement. Volkswagen GTI remains the icon for all sporty cars and we are extremely proud to bring this phenomenon to India.”

Volkswagen has raised the bar for hot hatches in the country with the launch of the Polo GTI. Earlier, the Abarth Punto was one of the most powerful hot hatchbacks, but even the Scorpion can only tail the Polo GTI.
