The SUV is slated to launch in India on May 24, 2017
It really has become a routine exercise, hasn’t it? Features for cars which are on the verge of their official launch leak beforehand and we just pounce on them. This time around it is the highly anticipated Volkswagen Tiguan, which will mark the company’s return to the SUV segment. The Tiguan’s official launch is slated for May 24, 2017, but its India-specific features have already surfaced. Without wasting much time, let’s get them out in the open.
Variants And Engine
As per the leaked details, Volkswagen will launch the Tiguan in two variants only - Comfortline and Highline. Under the hood, the German carmaker is likely to house only the 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine, mated to a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission. Unfortunately, performance figures aren’t part of the leaked details but to take a calculated guess, the engine is likely to be in the same state of tune as the Skoda Superb (177PS/350Nm). That should be enough for a five-seater SUV with all-wheel-drive as standard in both variants.
Features - Comfortline
By now, Volkswagen fanatics must have figured that the usual list of three variants has been shortened to two with the Tiguan. The base-spec Trendline is missing. So, what’s on offer in the Comfortline variant? Well, the long list of features includes:
- 17-inch alloy wheels
- LED-powered headlamps, taillights and DRLs
- Three-zone climate control
- Electrically adjustable and heated front seats
- Seat memory function for driver’s seat
- Electrically operated tailgate with adjustable opening angle
- Footwell lamps
- Automatic headlamps
- Hill descent control
- Front and rear disc brakes
- Six airbags
- Rain-sensing wipers
- Park distance control
- Tyre pressure monitoring system
- Infotainment system with 8 speakers, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
Features - Highline
As you’d expect, the top-of-the-line Highline variant gets more goodies than the Comfortline. That extended list of features includes:
- 18-inch alloy wheels
- Illuminated front scuff plates
- Bumpers with chrome and granite grey inserts
- Panoramic sunroof
- Silver roof rails
- Dashboard and front door trim with “Dark Grid” inserts
- Tail lamp with dark red assembly
- Ambient lighting
- Easy open tailgate with delayed closing function
- Keyless entry with push button start
- Self-sealing tyres
- Reverse parking camera
The Tiguan sums up to a feature-loaded car for sure. More importantly, it will attract customers who have been praying for a high-riding family car with a VW badge. We expect Volkswagen to price the Tiguan between the Rs 25-28 lakh mark. Price-wise, it’ll land itself against the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Isuzu MU-X, Hyundai Santa Fe and the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. Would you opt for the Tiguan over the heavyweights it is destined to go up against?
