Volvo Rolls Out The First Locally Assembled XC40 Recharge Electric SUV

Volvo’s first all-electric offering, the XC40 Recharge, has finally entered production in India. The first locally assembled unit has been rolled out by the Swedish manufacturer from its Hoskote facility, marking another milestone towards Volvo’s journey of going all-electric by 2030. 

Battery & Performance

Volvo XC40 Recharge

The electric version of the XC40 houses a 78kWh battery pack, and a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup with a peak performance output of 408PS and 660Nm. It has a WLTP-certified range of 418 km and is quick too, darting from 0-100 kmph in 4.9 seconds. The XC40 Recharge takes 40 minutes to invigorate its battery using a 150kWh fast charger, and also has an option of 11kW OBC (On-Board Charger) that converts AC into DC, and it would take around 8 hours.

Distinctive Design Elements

Volvo XC40 Recharge Interior

The outward-distinguishing features of the XC40 Recharge include an EV-specific covered grille, 19-inch, five-spoke diamond cut alloy wheels designed to decrease air resistance, embossed Recharge Twin Logo, and Recharge tread plates in the front door opening. The interior narrative begins with the use of sustainable materials and leather-free upholstery. Yet, it offers a modern and premium cabin experience with a conventional dashboard layout, making it easier for first time EV owners to adapt to their zero-emission car.

Features & Safety

Volvo XC40 Recharge Dashboard

When it comes to amenities, the XC40 Recharge is offered in a single, fully loaded trim. It comes with a vertical nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a Harman-Kardon 13 speaker 600W audio system. Furthermore, it gets powered front seats (with heating and cooling function), a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera and dual-zone climate control.

The electric Volvo SUV also boasts of an ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) suite, which includes collision avoidance and mitigation by braking and steering, run-off road mitigation, forward collision warning, lane keeping aid, post impact braking, driver alert, cruise control and speed limiter.

Price & Rivals

The XC40 Recharge is only offered in the P8 AWD trim in India, priced at Rs 55.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Based on pricing, Volvo’s electric SUV squares off against the Kia EV6 and BMW i4, both CBU imports. The upcoming Hyundai Ioniq will be a closer rival to the Swedish EV.
