This week started with the launch of Volkswagen Jetta then we saw the launch of updated Hyundai Verna and the very futuristic BMW i8. Apart from these, there are several announces for the upcoming 85th Geneva Motor Show in the first week of March 2015. Moreover, GM India also confirms that they will be launching Trailblazer SUV this year and Spin MPV by 2016. Let’s roll through the week’s highlights.

Hyundai Launches 4S Fluidic Verna Facelift at Rs 7.73 lac
Hyundai has finally launched the new 4S Fluidic Verna at Rs 7.73 lac (Ex-Showroom, Delhi) while the diesel model is priced at Rs 8.94 lac. The dealers across the country have already started taking the booking at an upfront payment of Rs 21,000 to Rs 51,000. BMW i8, India's first hybrid supercar launched at INR 2.29 Crore
The BMW i8 is powered by a 1.5 litre three cylinder turbo petrol engine developed from scratch by BMW that delivers an output of 231PS and 320Nm, this is from the gasoline engine alone; the electric motor on the other hand provides 131PS of power and 250Nm of torque. Do the math and combine the two and you have a total output of 362PS and 570Nm of torque, pretty impressive for a 1.5 litre engine! The engine will be coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission and the i8 will be a plug-in hybrid car which means you can charge it on the go from a suitable power source. Read More

Ford India is also Testing Over 4m Version of the Figo-Compact-Sedan
Couple of weeks ago, 2015 Figo and its sub-4m compact sedan was spied testing, this recent spy shot reveals that Ford India is also testing the over four meter version of the sedan in the country. The upcoming-duo are already on sale in Brazil and indeed the sedan is over four meter there. But since we have tax benefits from vehicle falling under four meter, Ford India will stick with the compact version of it (length under 4-m). Volvo uses 1000 test cars for sharing road-condition information
Volvo Cars, along with the Swedish Transport Administration and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration have put 1000 test cars on a project to enable cars to share information about conditions that relate to road friction (such as icy patches). The information will be shared through a cloud-based network and with the test fleet now expanding from about 50 cars to 1000, Volvo expects to make the technology available to customers within a few years’ time. The development of sophisticated communication via the mobile network is part of the Volvo’s aim to offer customers a fully connected experience and the hazard-light and slippery-road alerts are the first safety features in the Volvo cloud. Mini Coupe and Roadster models discontinued
After the launch of the new Mini 3-door and 5-door models a few months ago, the company has stopped the production of its two-seater models, the Coupe and Roadster. Now, the Mini 5-door and 3-door models are produced in seven engine variants at the Mini’s Oxford plant. The Mini Coupe originally made its world premiere at the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring Nordschleife immediately before its appearance at the Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA) in 2011. The Coupe also wont in its class in the "Best Cars 2015" reader's vote held by the automobile magazine "auto, motor und sport".
