The all-new MG Hector 2021 pushes the envelope with its refreshed styling, updated interiors, and enhanced comfort, making it a perfect SUV for the new-age, connected generation.
Fresh Style
The premium styling of Hector has always been one of its greatest strengths and has won many fans all over India. Now, with the 2021 model, MG has infused an extra dose of excitement into the design.
Among the changes, the new Hector gets revised finishing on the grille, which gels perfectly with its sophisticated styling. Both the front and rear scuff plates are a novel addition, bringing visual delight to the table. Cosmetically, these plates lend the SUV a butch and rugged demeanour.
In profile, the new stance is more pronounced, thanks to the larger 18-inch alloys that replace the 17-inch wheels of the outgoing model. The larger rims ease driving, and their inclusion should translate to increased comfort for the occupants.
At the rear, the chrome strip has made way for the black tailgate applique which joins the wraparound tail lamps. The Hector’s top variants come with a two-tone colour and MG has also added a new starry blue shade to the existing list of the SUV’s paint scheme. Overall, the 2021 MG Hector is an improvement on the design and style and should hit home with prospective buyers.
Updated Interiors
The primary change in the interiors of MG Hector 2021 comes in the form of the new dual-tone scheme -- champagne and black. The shade is in addition to the existing all-black colour that will continue on the new model. To step up the comfort quotient, MG has added a ventilation system to the front seats.
This system is ultra-efficient, and thanks to its 3-step working mechanism, can be adjusted for a range of climate conditions. The SUV has also received a new wireless mobile charging system that’s quite fast and efficient.
The massive 10.4-inch touchscreen system stays the same in size and layout. However, the i-Smart system has undergone a considerable (and desirable) upgrade. The 2021 facelift now understands Hinglish (Hindi + English) commands, an industry-first feature. You can control a range of functions with your voice, including, but not limited to, HVAC, music system, and access to the sunroof.
Engine and Transmission
The new model features the same engine options -- a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2-litre diesel motor. While the former produces 141bhp and 250Nm, the 2-litre diesel generates 168bhp and a maximum torque of 350Nm. A 6-speed manual transmission is a usual across the engine choices. The petrol-only variant also gets the option of a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Safety and Security
The focus on safety continues to remain as strong as ever. The new model packs 25+ safety features, making it one of the most secure vehicles in its class.
Some of the more prominent features include six safety airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA), 360-degree cameras, traction control system, hill-hold assist, rear disc brakes, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Additionally, speed warning alerts, thick door panels, and rear sensors further reaffirm the SUV’s commitment to safety.
Value for Money
Despite packing a host of additions, the 2021 model has been priced rather competitively. The petrol range starts at Rs 12.89 lakh for the Style MT variant and tops at Rs 17.99 lakh for Sharp DCT.
Diesel variants, on the other hand, retail from Rs 14.20 lakh for Style MT to Rs 18.32 lakh for Sharp MT, (all prices, ex-showroom, India).
All in all, the new MG Hector 2021 is expected to offer an optimum mix of style, safety, comfort, and performance. Check out the new Hector at a dealership near you and experience ‘A Human Thing’ all over again.
