The Volkswagen Polo facelift is arriving next week on July 15, but the leaked brochure reveals engine details of the upcoming German hatch. The Polo facelift was unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show but spy shots reveal that the the Indian version is slightly diluted on detailing but looks refreshing. Although the car receives minor upgrades inside-out but things under the hood have been revised thoroughly! The entire diesel line-up has been upgraded; the Polo diesel is now powered by a new 1.5 liter TDI turbo diesel motor offering two states of tune, while the petrol counterpart is kept untouched. VW will keep all the current variants of the Polo, namely, GT TDI, GT TSI and Cross Polo.
VW Polo 1.5L TDI diesel
- The existing 1.2 liter TDI 3-cylinder diesel has been ditched to a new 4-cylinder 1.5 liter TDI unit.
- The new 1.5 liter turbo diesel motor in the 2014 Polo churns out 89bhp (90PS) at the engine speed 4200rpm while a class leading torque of 230Nm is extracted. The torque starts building as early as 1500rpm and stays with you till 2500rpm.
- The engine incorporates diesel direct injection and a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) compared to on-going's 1.2 TDI fixed geometry one. The VGT turbocharger with variable angle changing turbo blades helps in building the torque early compared to fixed ones.
- The power output has gone manifold with the new diesel unit compared to the current model's 74bhp and 180Nm of max torque; with nearly an upgrade of a cylinder, you get 15bhp of extra punch and a whooping 50Nm of extra torque to play-around!
- Polo GT TDI - ditches the 1.6 liter TDI motor and gets this new 1.5 liter TDI in an uprated form. This engine in GT TDI churns out 103.6bhp (105PS) of max power @ 4400rpm while the torque stands at 250Nm at 1500rpm - 2500rpm.
- The Cross Polo gets the 90PS version of the 1.5 TDI unit.
VW Polo 1.2 petrol
- The Polo petrol retains the outgoing 1.2 liter MPI naturally aspirated one producing 74bhp and 110Nm of max torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual.
- The Polo GT TSI also retains the 1.2 TSI turbo-charged petrol motor mustering 103.6bhp (105PS) and 175Nm of max torque and is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG with tiptronic.
Added features
- The Polo gets new smoked dual-barrel headlamps, new fog lamps with cornering lights, tweaked grille and bumper.
- On the inside, Polo gets new flat-bottom multi-function steering wheel, brushed silver finish center console, subtly tweaked instrumentation cluster with new driver information display.
- The rear gets tweaked bumper, apart from this expect new colors, upholsteries and an aggressive price tag.
