- Automatic transmission is limited to the petrol engine.
The Hyundai Grand i10 is the South Korean automaker’s midsize hatchback that rivals the likes of the Maruti Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100. It is available in four variants – Era, Magna, Sportz, Sportz (dual-tone) and Asta, priced from Rs 4.97 lakh to Rs 7.62 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). But which feature package, engine and transmission combination suits your needs better? Let’s find out.
Before we dive into variant details, here is a quick look at the hatchback’s colour options and the safety features.
Colour Options:
- Typhoon Silver
- Star Dust
- Fiery Red
- Polar White
- Flame Orange
- Marina Blue
Standard Safety Features:
- Dual front airbags
- ABS with EBD
Hyundai Grand i10 Era: Gets basic safety right
Variant |
Price (ex-showroom Delhi) |
Era petrol |
Rs 5 lakh |
Era diesel |
Rs 6.17 lakh |
Features:
Safety: Dual front airbags and ABS with EBD
Exterior: Body coloured bumpers
Comfort: Power steering, manual AC, front power windows and internally adjustable ORVMs
Verdict: You should go for this variant only if you are on a tight budget and have shortlisted the Grand i10 only. The base-spec Grand i10 is bare-bones in terms of features on offer. Although it gets the basic safety features right, it misses out on basic need-based features like a music system, rear power windows and central locking. Hyundai is also not offering body-coloured door handles and ORVMs with the base-spec model, the lack of which makes it look ordinary.

Price (ex-showroom Delhi) |
Rs 5.75 lakh/Rs 6.55 lakh |
Rs 6.72 lakh |

Rs 55,000 |
Features over Era
Safety: Central locking and speed-sensing door lock
Exterior: Body-coloured door handles and door mirrors, roof antenna, full wheel cover and roof rails
Comfort: Steering-mounted controls, rear AC vents, day/night IRVM, rear power windows and electrically adjustable ORVMs
Infotainment: 2-din music system with Bluetooth, Aux and USB in the MT and a 5-inch touchscreen unit with Bluetooth, USB and Aux in the AT variant
Verdict: In this variant, the Grand i10 gets some of the features that we think should have been on offer right from the base variant. The premium that Hyundai is asking for these, though, is too high in our opinion, even for the diesel version. If you’re stretching your budget for this variant, we will instead suggest you to go for the base-spec Grand i10 and get some of these features fitted post purchase.
However, if you are looking for a petrol automatic hatchback, this is the first variant in the Grand i10 lineup to get the option of an AT. For those on a budget and planning to settle for the Grand i10 only can go for this variant, otherwise we would suggest you to stretch your budget and go for the Sportz variant.
Hyundai Grand i10 Sportz- Recommended variant

Diesel |
|
Price (ex-showroom Delhi) |
Rs 6.14/lakh/Rs 7.08 lakh |
Rs 7.17 lakh |

Rs 45,000 |
Features over Magna:
Safety: Rear parking sensors
Exterior: Front fog lamps, LED DRLs, alloys (AT only), turn indicators on ORVMs and rear spoiler
Comfort: Rear parking camera, rear defogger, electrically foldable ORVMs, tilt-adjustable steering and cooled glovebox
Infotainment: 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Verdict: This is the variant we recommend. It gets all the required features and then some. The price premium it attracts over the previous variant is totally justified in our opinion. Even for people looking for a petrol automatic hatchback, the Sportz is the right choice, in our opinion.
If you are someone who likes to stand out from the crowd. Hyundai is also offering a dual-tone exterior paint option with the Sportz variant. It is, however, priced at a premium of Rs 24,000 (diesel) and Rs 25,000 (petrol) over the single-tone variant, which is pricey. Why not go for the Grand i10 Asta instead?

Diesel |
|
Price (ex-showroom Delhi) |
Rs 6.65 lakh/- |

Rs 51,000 |
Rs 45,000 |
Features over Sportz
Exterior: Chrome door handles and alloy wheels
Comfort: Auto AC, push-button start, rear washer and wiper, height-adjustable driver seat and rear adjustable headrest
Verdict: If you like your new Grand i10 to be loaded with all the bells and whistles on offer, this is the right variant for you. For a premium of upto Rs 51,000 over the Sportz variant, it gets feel good features like auto AC and push-button start. It also gets some extra features like height-adjustable driver seat, adjustable rear headrest and rear washer and wiper. In its top variant, the Grand i10 is the contemporary compact hatchback to buy, and justifies the incremental value over previous variant.
