The fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift was showcased recently in Japan. Shortly after revealing the engine-gearbox options of the new Swift, the carmaker has now released the power and mileage figures of the Japan-spec model.
Updated Performance Numbers
With the new Swift, Suzuki will be offering a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z-series petrol unit making 82 PS and 108 Nm, available with a 12V mild-hybrid system. It is being provided with both 5-speed MT and CVT options in its home country, along with a choice of 2-wheel drive (2WD) and all-wheel drive (AWD). The Japan-spec model’s claimed fuel efficiency figures stand at 24.5kmpl with the mild-hybrid setup and 23.4kmpl for the standard variants.
The currently sold India-spec Swift, for reference, gets a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine (90 PS/ 113 Nm), coupled with either a 5-speed MT or a 5-speed AMT. When the new Swift comes to India, we expect it to retain the same set of transmission options and continue with the 2WD setup.
Features On Board
The new Swift has been equipped with a 9-inch touchscreen unit, cruise control, push-button start/stop, and auto climate control. Occupant safety is likely to be taken care of by six airbags, electronic stability programme (ESP), a 360-degree camera setup, and some advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The India-spec hatchback may not get ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, adaptive high beam system, and lane assists, but the test mules spied here were seen with blind spot monitoring.
When Will It Arrive Here?
We believe the fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift will be launched in the first half of 2024 in India, with prices starting from Rs 6 lakh. It will rekindle its rivalry with the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios while also serving as an alternative to the sub-4m crossover MPV, the Renault Triber.
