All of us have always hated the green slimy water borne- algae. But soon this algae is going to be valuable as it is being looked upon as the bio-fuel of next generation for  automobiles. Ford scientists are working and researching on those renewable sources which can be used as potential and useful  bio-fuels in automobiles. In fact, the Ford company wants to end its dependency on foreign fuels and that is why this new idea of using algae as fuel has come as the new strategy of the company. The company also thinks that the new idea will give more eco-friendly fuel resources.

Tim Wallington, technical leader with the Ford Systems Analytics and Environmental Sciences Department commented that Ford has got a long history of developing automobiles which use renewable fuels and more use of bio fuels is a significant element of the sustainability of the company’s strategy. Ford said that they look ahead from an economic, technological, environmental, and social standpoint at the capable and renewable next-generation fuels which can power the vehicles.

It is an important finding that few species of algae have the capability of converting carbon dioxide into oil, carbohydrates, and some other cell components through the process of  photosynthesis. Algae are very prolific unlike corn and soybeans. Another advantage of algae is that it can be grown just anywhere in either saline or fresh waters. It can also be grown at any time of the year. Also, there is no particular harvest time for this. The researchers are trying to find out economical and useful ways for controlled production (commercial scale) and culturing of algae.
