Auto co to reduce car weight for fuel-efficiency

Trend of small cars in India has changed a many things. After the Tata Nano proved as fuel-efficient and eco-friendly, other car companied are in the process to reduce weight. The use of light materials will not only give fuel-efficiency but also eco-friendliness. The car companies like Maruti, Honda, Tata Motors and Hyundai are keen to do it as soon as possible. The light material like high tensile steel, plastic, aluminium are to be used in cars without compromising on the safety measures.
Industry experts suggests that the vehicle may turn out to be nearly 5-12 percent lighter than before and result in more fuel efficient and eco-friendly model.
Adil Jal Darukhanawala, editor-in-chief, Times Zigwheels said that if the weight is reduced, the overall carbon dioxide reduction will be assured, apart from enhancing the vehicle’s performance and reducing fuel consumption. The upcoming model Mauti Ritz and Tata Nano are expected to have used such materials making them lighter and using small capacity engine. The new model from Honda, Jazz, is also made of lighter materials and is made on same platform as Honda City. It will use similar components as Honda City which will enable the company to price it competitively in the market.
