The upcoming festive season is the only shred of hope left with the car makers to rev up their sales. Almost all the car manufacturers are offering lucrative discounts to attract more footfall at their respective sales outlets. Name it – and you get!, let it be cash discounts or minimal interest rates on loans or free maintenance cost and even roadside assistance. Looks like, the auto industry is up for a revolution to combat the negative factors pulling down the sales. The high lending rates and the increasing petrol prices have started taking their toll on the car market since June, this year.

The leading car manufacturers like Maruti India and Hyundai Motors are also not spared from the current dire situation. The only segment which seems to be relatively unaffected is the luxury car segment. The luxury segment seems to continue with the growth trend as the potential consumers of the luxury brands are minimally influenced by the high interest rates. Maruti India is facing its own set of problems with the ongoing labour unrest at its Manesar plant. The impasse at the plant has hit the production of its top selling models including the Maruti Swift, Maruti A-Star and Maruti SX4 sedan. Though new Maruti Swift attracted over 1 lakh bookings since its launch in August, the company had to deal with the production constraints. In order to make up for the losses and increasing the sales, the auto major is offering cash discounts upto Rs 25, 000 on its flagship models – Maruti Wagon R and Maruti Alto

On the other hand Hyundai Motors is also offering discounts in the range of Rs 20,000 – Rs 30,000. To increase their respective petrol-driven car sales, the top manufacturers like Volkswagen and Toyota are offering various schemes including the free insurance coverage on new cars as well. With the soaring diesel car demand, the Toyota Etios Liva and Toyota Etios sedan have declined drastically. Observing the market trend, Toyota had strategically timed the launch of Toyota twins diesel variants. Mahindra is also offering a cash discount of Rs 20,000 on the petrol variant of Mahindra Verito.
