The BMW iX1 has been teased by the German marque for its India debut this year. The electric version of the X1 SUV was revealed internationally last year in June when the carmaker showcased the third-gen X1, and now the electric SUV is on its way to India. Here is what we know so far:
Design
The iX1 looks identical to the X1 in overall design. It has an upright fascia with a big closed-off grille, slim LED headlights housing the LED DRLs, and a big bumper with chrome inserts. Its profile looks almost identical to that of the regular X1 save for the blue insert on the side skirts while having the same alloy wheel options (17-inch to 21-inch units). Its rear gets a spoiler, L-shaped tail lamps, and a big bumper with a skid plate.
To differentiate from the X1, BMW has added blue inserts around the chrome elements and the rear profile gets an “iX1” badging.
Inside the iX1 is a dual-tone black and brown cabin with a layered and driver-oriented dashboard. It has slim AC vents, a dual-integrated display setup, and a floating central tunnel.
Features
The global model comes with a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control and electrically adjustable front seats with memory and massage function. It also has multiple airbags, a rear parking camera, park assist, and driver assist features like cruise control with brake function and front-collision warning.

Battery Pack & Motor
The iX1, internationally, is offered in two variants: eDrive20 and xDrive30, both of which get a 64.7kWh battery pack. The former gets a front-wheel drive single motor setup that makes 204PS and 250Nm, and the latter gets a dual motor all-wheel-drive setup with a combined output of 313PS and 494Nm. With this setup, the iX1 gets a WLTP-claimed range of up to 475km. Till now, BMW has not confirmed which powertrain it will bring with the India-spec model.
Launch, Price & Rivals
BMW can launch the iX1 in India by October this year and it is expected to be priced from Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards. Once in the market, it will be a direct rival to the Volvo XC40 Recharge.
