Until now, the sophisticated and luxurious 7 Series sedan was sitting comfortably at the top of BMW’s luxury offerings, but things might go a notch-up. As seen in the spy shots of a prototype, BMW seems to be ‘secretly’ planning a comeback of the 8 Series coupe, which used to be a part of the BMW brigade two decades back. Going for a modern day design, the 8 Series coupe can be a perfect answer to the Mercedes Benz S-Class coupe.
From the pictures itself, the 8 Series appears to be quite long, in fact longer than any coupe offering from BMW. The stretched wheelbase clearly suggests more room to play inside which in return will lead to more tech and comfort features for it to be equipped with. The coupe in question can be based on the existing 7 Series platform, but any other similarity can be ruled out. Owing to its huge dimensions, we can expect BMW to create a mesmerizing design which can borrow cues from its existing line-up, but at the same time can have a unique signature design to entice customers of this bespoke segment.
Although, there is no clarity on what engine will be offered under its hood, BMW might introduce its modern-day turbocharged units. Also, on the design front, we can also expect a convertible version and even a four-door Gran Coupe of this 8 Series. Well, till the time more details surface online, all we can say is the 8 Series is here to stay and will take on its German counterparts head-on.
