Car sales increased by 4%

Domestic passenger-car sales soared in the first month of fiscal 2009-2010 by 4.20 per cent. In this month, 1,02,899 units were sold compare to the 98,752 units a year ago. On the other hand, commercial vehicles, comprises of trucks and buses, sales dipped 11.25 percent in April to 29,842 units from 33,626 units in the year-ago period. According to the data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has forecast passenger vehicle sales in the current financial year to March 2010 to rise between 3 and 5 percent. The current sales growth is not sufficient. Maruti Suzuki is on top with an 8.6 percent increase in sales. Hyundai's India sales moved up 3.5 percent and No. 3 Tata Motors' car sales had seen no major change from a year earlier.
