The first Indian Grand Prix F1 race is slated to take place on October 30th and the leading sports car manufacturers across the world have timed the auspicious moment to gain access into the country. Tony Fernandes owned UK based Caterham is the other manufacturer hoping to make its debut in the country offering its wide range of SP300 line-up in India in the price range of Rs 20 lakhs -Rs 90 lakhs. The car manufacturer intends to make an investment of Rs 5 – Rs 10 millions in India towards setting up a new assembly plant in India for producing its light weight cars in the country.
The new manufacturing facility in India is the Caterham’s first plant outside UK. Probably, the manufacturer has the ulterior motive to set up India as the second manufacturing hub. As a part of bringing the brand awareness among the customers, the British manufacturer envisages building a prosperous relationship between the car maker and the consumer directly by providing practice runs on the Buddh International race track before the event. This will serve the dual purpose for the debutant. While working as a marketing campaign on one hand, this step taken by the manufacturer will also encourage the motorsports in India. With the flourishing interest in Motorsports in India, a new track is being developed in Mumbai.
The Brtish car manufacturer to ease its entrance in the country has teamed up with Gaurav Burman of Dabur Group recently. The Caterham cars had retained its trademark sports car design with the long bonnet and open-wheeled layout over the period of time since 1970s. The fastest sports car line-up of Caterham is the Caterham R500 car, which is said to beat the famous Buggati Veyron at the Top Gear race track. Tony Fernandes, the alleged owner of Caterham has a F1 racing team participating in the Indian Grand Prix.
