Planning to be a part of the Hyundai family but cannot decide whether to pick the premium hatchback or the sub-4m SUV? Allow us to clear things up.
Hyundai has launched the Venue in India with introductory prices ranging between Rs 6.5 lakh and Rs 11.1 lakh (ex-showroom India). In some variants, the Venue’s prices fall within touching distance of its hatchback sibling, the Elite i20. So let’s compare closely priced variants of the Venue and Elite i20 to find out which one offers better value. For a fair fight, we’ve picked variants that are priced within a range of Rs 50,000.
Basic Differences
Hyundai Venue |
Hyundai Elite i20 |
Sub-4m SUV: The Venue’s body style makes us call it an SUV. You sit higher up in it in comparison to a hatchback, which means a comparatively better view out. |
Sub-4m hatchback: The Elite i20 is a premium hatchback and sits closer to the ground. |
Three engine options: The Venue comes with a choice of two petrols - 1.2-litre naturally aspirated and 1.0-litre turbocharged - along with a 1.4-litre diesel. |
Couple of engines: It gets only a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.4-litre diesel unit. Both these engines are also available in the Venue. |
Connected Technology: Debuts Hyundai’s Blue Link connected car features which brings internet-based safety and convenience features. |
Doesn’t get any internet-based connected car features. |
Rivals: It competes with the Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport. |
Rivals: The Elite i20 locks horns with Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz, VW Polo and upcoming Toyota Glanza. |

The Venue gets a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine that’s not available on the Elite i20. The other 1.2-litre petrol engine on the Venue is the same as that on the hatchback. However, while the 1.2-litre petrol engine on the Elite i20 is paired with a CVT, the same engine on the Venue is only available with a manual transmission. If you need an automatic gearbox, you will have to splurge a little for the 1.0-litre engine that is offered with a dual-clutch automatic transmission.
