Exclusive: Toyota Will Offer The New Innova Hycross With ADAS

It’s not only the first time that the Innova nameplate features this safety suite but will also make its debut on a Toyota car sold in India

Update (25/11/2022): Toyota has unveiled the Innova Hycross in India. Bookings for the MPV are now underway, while its prices are likely to be revealed at the 2023 Auto Expo.

With November soon approaching (debut month of the new Toyota Innova Hycross), more and more details of the MPV have started emerging. Now, we can exclusively bring to you that the 2022 Toyota Innova will feature Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a first for the nameplate as well as a model in the carmaker’s lineup in India.

What Will It Consist Of?

The 2022 Innova will come with Toyota’s Safety Sense (ADAS in the carmaker’s speak), which will consist of features such as lane keep assist, auto high-beam assist, adaptive cruise control, and forward collision avoidance. It will also include lane departure warning and road sign alerts.

Other Safety Tech And Equipment

Apart from ADAS, the new Innova Hycross will also get up to seven airbags, vehicle stability control (VSC), front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera.

Since it will be positioned above the Hyryder in Toyota’s India lineup, the MPV will likely borrow many features from the compact SUV including ventilated front seats, a larger touchscreen system (compared to the Innova Crysta), wireless phone charging, and a head-up display. Latest developments have also confirmed that the MPV will come with a sunroof for the first time (a panoramic unit).

A New Powertrain

The Toyota Innova Hycross will come with a 2-litre petrol engine, in both strong-hybrid (as seen in the Corolla and Corolla Cross) and non-hybrid guises (likely for the lower-spec trims). While the former produces 194PS, the latter churns out 170PS and 202Nm. Toyota will pair the hybrid trims with an e-CVT while the standard variants will likely get a CVT only with no manual gearbox on offer. Both the transmission options will power the front wheels, a first for the Toyota MPV.

Launch, Price And Competition

Toyota will unveil the Innova Hycross in November in Indonesia and we expect the carmaker to bring the MPV to India soon after. Given the host of updates, the 2022 Innova could have a starting price of Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). It will continue to be a premium offering to the likes of the Kia Carens and Mahindra Marazzo but an affordable option to the Kia Carnival.
