Few months after the launch of refreshed Linea, Fiat has now brought in the facelifted Punto a.k.a Punto Evo in India today. While talking to Cardekho, the Italian automaker revealed that over the last seven months, the company has sold about 7,000 units of Punto and Linea in combined. Therefore, concluding the tally to an average sale of about 1,000 a month.
“We have a lot of expectations from Punto Evo, and hope for a major sales boost in the near future, and right now, we are retailing about 1000 cars in a month,” the official said.
Its a known fact that a major chuck of Fiat India's revenue comes from its diesel engine sourcing business. The Italian manufacturer's 1.3 litre MultiJet propels many cars across different brands, in India as well as around the world. The low-maintenance diesel engine, is so much successful in the country, that it could be termed as the “national engine of India,” as it does its duty under the hood of more than a dozen cars. In India Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, General Motors and Premier rely on this engine besides Fiat. The diesel mill is available in two versions, one with a regular or fixed turbocharger, while the high-powered with a VGT (Variable Geometry Turbocharger). The fixed geometry turbocharger unit is rated at 70-75 bhp, whereas the ones with VGT put out 85-95 bhp.
Considering the rise in demand for diesel powered cars in the country, quite recently, Maruti Suzuki India Limited extended its diesel engine sourcing deal with Fiat India for a further three years till 2018. The ace manufacturer has been sourcing 1.3-liter Multijet diesel engine from Fiat since 2011, and the current was due to expire in the year 2015.
