Figo demand rises, Ford to hire 1000 more in India

Ford India, which has witnessed a considerably well performance in its sales last month, initiated the exports of its latest hatchback sensation Ford Figo to South Africa. This latest exports to the South-African market can be seen as the company's first step in the direction towards its long term plans of making Indian its export hub. The company has announced that it is going to hire about 1,000 employees in India by the end of this year, so that its production facilities in India can be fully utilized.
Mr Michael Boneham, the Managing Director of the company told the reporters that the company was very excited as the first shipment of Figo was sent to South Africa yesterday. About 1,200 units of Figo were exported to Durban as completely-built-units (CBU) that comprised of equal number of diesel and petrol variants. Mr Boneham added that South Africa was an impatient costumer for the company and the company has received more than 5,000 booking orders in that market, till now. The company will export a total of 3,000 units of Figo in the year 2010.
Mr Boneham further added that he was not going to say anything about company's newer exports markets. The new markets will not include US and Europe but will be pretty special markets for the company. The company will announce the name of the newer markets in a couple of weeks, he added. The company is already sells its mid-sized sedan 'Ford Fiesta' as 'Ford Ikon' in the South-African market.
