Ford eyes to accelerate sales, intends to triple dealership by 2016

Ford India, the wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Corp. intends to launch 8 of its new global model cars by 2015, the Global Ford Fiesta sedan being the first in leading the bandwagon. Ford India has been in the limelight for quite some time, with Ford Figo hatchback’s success, followed by its achievement with Ford Fiesta sedan, Ford India has now decided to improve its sales figures by increasing the number of its sales outlets and service centers to 200 plus against its current 189 and to triple Ford India dealerships by 2016 . It also has plans to improve its production capacity as it has been under pressure for some time with regard to the production of the diesel variants of its car models and hope to meet the demand in the coming few months and intends to increase its market shares considerably from its current 3% by 2015.

Ford India has 189 sales outlets and service points in 108 cities in India. Nigel Wark, Director of Marketing for Ford India has informed that they intend to have 20 more touch points added to the current 189 by the end of this year. They have touch points in all the major cities including the tier I and tier II cities as of now, which they are going to extend to tier III and tier IV cities as well. They have opened its first Ford India dealership in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir and another one in Guwahati, Assam as a part of its original plan of tripling the current number of dealerships.

Many major auto makers including Honda are of the opinion that its high time to concentrate on smaller cities and towns in India to improve their respective sales figures due to the increasing spending potential in these parts of the country. Ford India’s move towards extending its touch points in smaller cities is a plan to follow the same direction as it has become imperative for Ford to go beyond the major cities and metros. Among the eight new models to be launched by 2015, Indian auto market is about to witness 5 to 6 small car launches. According to Wark, they plan to have atleast three service and sales outlets for every two dealerships to have greater impact in the small cities and towns across India.

Ford India’s step towards reaching the semi-urban areas of the country and abroad seems to be working as their half yearly reports suggest 53 percent growth in sales and also seems to be involved in wrapping up their discussions with the Gujarat government to set up their second manufacturing plant in India. Looks like Ford India has major growth plans for the near future.
