Ford Figo to export from India

Ford the American auto giant is planning to expand the overseas auto market of Ford Figo, the popular small car. The American auto company is looking for options for Ford Figo in North African nations, Mexico, Caribbean Islands and in Middle East countries. Ford plans to make India an international hub for its compact car. Ford India has future plans to introduce eight new car models for the domestic car market by the mid of this decade. For India, the auto giant can plan the same strategy of manufacturing the cars in India. It will be the same like the auto company does for Ford Figo.

Michael Boneham- President and Managing Director at Ford India said that the Indian auto industry will act as the hatchback hub for the company. Ford Figo will be manufactured in India only for the rest of the market scattered across the globe. For the other car models which the company plans to introduce later may adopt a similar strategy however, it should cross the respected demand criteria.

In two weeks time, Ford will export 1,500 cars of Ford Figo in Mexico and is ready to conqueror the lucrative auto market there. Other than this the company will ship the small car in Middle East, Caribbean and North African auto markets. At present Ford is shipping the cars in the Nepal and South African auto markets. Last year, 12,000 Ford cars were shipped in which 1,200 cars were Ford Figo and Ford Fiesta.

For the first time, in January, the Indian auto company rolled out 10,000 cars which helped it in securing the fourth position with the auto biggies like Maruti, Hyundai and Tata Motors.

Ford in its Chennai unit invested USD 500 million by multiplying the car manufacturing to two lakh yearly and also to manufacture a new engine having a capacity of 2.5 lakh in every year.
