Ford India has recently launched a book – First Gear and organized a pledge campaign – ‘I Pledge to Drive Safe’. The book acts a guide to the car buyers who has purchased a car for the first time. Ford Motors has also announced another campaign for safe driving and this will be a digital pledge campaign. Speaking about the campaign, Mr. Tom Chackalchal, Executive Director of Manufacturing of Ford India mentioned that every year accidents take a toll on 25,000 lives in India, the mortality rate can be cut down by 61 percent if everyone uses a seat belt while driving. He further said that the fans of Ford India should take a pledge of using seat belts every time drive and also practice the safety tips in the book, First Gear while driving. Traffic rules are undoubtedly important but what is more important is self-discipline, he added.
The ‘I Pledge to Drive Safe’ campaign has made a lot of fans in the country and one such enthusiast gives the credit to Ford Motors for changing her attitude when she is on the road. She focuses more on safe, economic and friendly driving now, she added. A car driving trainer mentioned that anyone who makes a living through driving should blindly follow the top ten safe driving tips given in the ‘First Gear’. He also indicated the mentality of an Indian driver is a bit conflicted, he/she thinks that the car driver in the front is supposed to follow the rules and he/she continues to drive as per wish. He further added that riding without helmets is way too dangerous but the bike riders in India do not seem to bother, the helmets are mandatory and this rule should be abided.
