Ford India launches 100,000th engine

Ford India is touching milestones, the faith of the American company changed when it rolled out Ford Figo. But now the horses mouth speaks its own victory as they leashed out 1,00,000th powertrain from its manufacturing unit based at Chennai.

Ford India's executive stated that it was possible after the company started its operations in the engine unit in the month of January in 2010. They also said that the powertrain unit has been established with an investment of $500 million at Maraimalai Nagar site with a capacity to manufacture 250,000 powertrain every year. It has been made to overcome the culminating needs for a powertrain in the domestic auto market and also for export purposes.

The one lakh powertain landmark was achieved due to many variant launches in both national and international auto markets.

Michael Boneham- President and Managing Director at Ford India is overwhelmed with joy. He said that the company owns an updated production unit which showcases the company's intention and commitment to strive with better products and engines for all the cars in various segments.

Radhakrishnan Balasundaram-Vice-President, Powertrain Operations (PTO) at Ford India congratulated the company for the milestone. He said that Ford India is sure to soon roll out another 100,000 powertrain from its manufacturing unit.

Ford India's Chennai powertrain unit is the independent Ford unit to have manufacturing line up for the production of diesel and petrol powertrains. It manufactures five “Duratec” petrol powertrain version and one “Duratorq” diesel powertrain for Ford cars. The manufacturing unit has also shipped a higher degree than one third of its engines it has manufactured to the countries like Thailand and South Africa.
