Ford India Touches One Million Milestone at its Chennai Plant

The Chennai plant of Ford India has produced its one millionth car and its one millionth engine. The manufacturer has achieved this milestone in around 16 years since the plant’s inception back in 1999. The one millionth vehicle happens to be an EcoSport.
Spread over 350 acres, currently, the plant is producing three cars, EcoSport, Fiesta and Endeavour, alongside an engine assembling unit that was established in 2008. The assembly line has been designed to produce petrol as well as diesel engines simultaneously. With a capacity of 2 lac vehicles and 3.4 lac engines a year, it is one American powerhouse.
Mr Balasundaram Radhakrishnan, executive director of manufacturing, Ford Chennai Vehicle Assembly & Engine Plant, said “Chennai is from where we started our make in India journey. Apart from being a global manufacturing hub for Ford, the facility has set new benchmarks in adopting processes that not only ensure global quality but significantly reduce our carbon footprint. The millionth vehicle and engine production milestone stands as a testament to the passion and dedication of more than 6,000 hardworking men and women at Chennai”.

Other than the Chennai unit, Ford inaugurated its latest manufacturing plant at Sanand, Gujarat, that is majorly focused on engines, even though, Figo and Aspire are also produced at this very place.
Courtesy to these two plants, Ford its exporting a large number of vehicles and engines to more than 40 countries that include parts of Europe, Middle-East, ASEAN countries and Africa.
