Ford has launched the next generation Figo/KA based sedan KA+ in Brazil (remember the concept they showcased at the Auto Expo in February). The Indian launch is slated early next year and the compact sedan will be produced at Ford India's upcoming plant in Sanand, Gujarat along with the next-gen Figo. When launched, it will compete with Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and Tata Zest. The vehicle prices in Brazil starts from R$ 37,890 (just over Rs 10 lakh) but in India it will be priced competitively inline with its rivals.
Speaking of the design and features of the compact sedan, it sports Ford's second iteration of the Kinetic design philosophy – Kinetic 2.0. The sweptback headlamps, chromed inverted trapezoidal grille are the highlight of the front while the back features wrap around taillamps. On the feature list, it gets Ford's SYNC voice controlled equipped audio system with AppLink and Emergency Assistance, similar to the one seen in the EcoSport.
Mechanically, the new sedan and the hatch are expected to be powered by a 1.0 liter naturally aspirated TiVCT petrol engine. The 1.0 liter three-cylinder motor which belts out 80bhp (85bhp on ethanol in Brazil) at 6500rpm. While the the maximum torque is stated at 105Nm that comes at 4500rpm. The sedan on Brazil also features a 1.5 TiVCT similar to the one powering the Ford EcoSport. Both the hatchback and sedan offer five speed manual in Brazil as of now. But considering the compact sedan's rivals in India, Ford might introduce an automatic box.
Moreover, the Ford Classic which indeed started the Fiesta badging in the country is likely to be replaced by this new sedan as its almost a decade old. Ford India also discontinued the Ikon when they introduced the stepped down version of the Fiesta – Classic.
